When Seth Casteel rescued Poodle-mix Nala in 2007 she changed his life…

‘Nala inspired me to become a pet photographer, which unexpectedly led to a successful career as an author! She also inspired “One Picture Saves a Life”, my charitable mission to help improve the image of animal rescue and adoption through photography. We teach photography workshops at animal shelters around the world and give away brand new cameras and lenses to shelters and rescues in need.’

‘Whenever I sign one of my Underwater Dogs books I write, “Dogs Inspire Us!” It relates to all dogs, but most importantly, Nala. I literally have no idea what I’d be doing right now if it wasn’t for her, but I am so grateful that she is in my life.’

TIME TO HIT THE ROAD…

When traveling in the car with you, is Nala a) sat in your lap, paws on the steering wheel b) head out the window taking it all in c) laid-back and snoozing or d) secure in carrier e) other behavior!

Nala lounges in the back in her “car bed”, but occasionally checks in with me to see if I need any help navigating 🙂

You live in Venice, CA but if you could wake up anywhere in the world with Nala, what destination would you most like to experience together and why?

We’d explore the various islands of the Caribbean for the nature and relaxation!

What is your fondest memory of taking a trip with Nala?

We’ve driven from Chicago to Los Angeles, stopping dozens of times along the way to frolic in the wide open spaces and hike in the mountains! It was just Nala and I and the radio. We had such an excellent time.

Any tried & tested tips for happy travels with your dog?

Take your time and stop along the way to enjoy the scenery and adventures!

Finally, any tips for getting the best possible vacation photo of your dog?

I always think it’s fun to ask a bunch of people you don’t know to pose in a picture with your dog. Having that photo on display in your home makes for a great conversation piece!
